Grant boost for Vineyard community hub
Norwich Vineyard’s community hub, The Place in Thorpe St Andrew, has received a generous cash grant from its local Sainsbury’s supermarket.
The Place, in Spinney Road, brings people of all ages together, offers debt advice and support, hosts a monthly craft group, after-school meet-ups and a welcoming environment for older people and people with disabilities and mental health issues
Centre volunteer manager, Sarah Avey, asked Sainsbury’s in Pound Lane to support the work at the centre. She was delighted when they responded by donating £200.
Sarah said: “People are always welcome here, after Easter we intend to provide lunches on Tuesdays and invite people to join us and we thank Sainsbury’s Pound Lane for their generous donation. The money will be used to buy craft equipment and refreshments. I would like to invite people to come along and meet us, they will be made very welcome.”
The centre was established two years ago by Norwich Vineyard Church, which is based in Thorpe St Andrew and meets at the High School every Sunday morning, and around 100 people visit the centre every week.
Linda Andrews, PR ambassador of Sainsbury’s Pound Lane, said: “We were able to provide this grant with extra money received in our charity budget brought about by the recently carrier bag levy. It’s great that we are able support local ventures in our locality.”
