for the sake of the world - the responsibility of following Jesus
When you became a follower of Jesus I wonder whether you were told of the responsibilities that came with your decision? Most of us came to Jesus on the basis of recognising his love for us, our great need of forgiveness from sin and the inability to save ourselves. In giving our lives to Christ and asking for his forgiveness, we passed from the death that sin works in us, to the eternal life that only Jesus can give. All of this is truly wonderful, and if you haven't done so, I urge you to give your life to him.
However, here is something to consider. In giving our lives to him we give up the right to govern our own lives, and we now live to please him. In the King James Version in Revelation ch1 v 5-6 it says: And from Jesus Christ, who loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, he has made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
We are kings and priests! A king would go out to battle for his people. Now as kings we are meant to fight for our neighbours, friends and communities. We do this through prayer. We are also priests. The priest would carry the people before God in love, on his shoulders and over his heart. As followers of Jesus we love and fight for the hearts and lives of those around us. What a calling, what a privilege!
